Gelcoat is a specialized polyester or vinyl ester resin, enriched with pigments to create in mold coatings that deliver high-quality finishes and aesthetics. Gelcoat protects against environmental impacts, such as UV radiation and water ingress. Surface coats are used in high-performance or demanding environments. For most applications, a gelcoat alone is sufficient unless specific enhanced properties or aesthetic considerations justify the extra layer of surface coat.
