Earlier this month, Composites One was proud to present Precision Repair for Wind Blades, a live webinar designed to equip Wind Energy industry professionals with expert knowledge on the essential materials, tools, and techniques required for high-quality wind turbine blade repair.

In this hour-long webinar, Bret Anderson and Gentry Cox-Gutierrez of Composites One sat down with Alfred Crabtree, Founder and CEO of Blade Repair Academy, to provide a comprehensive breakdown of wind blade repair, guiding viewers through each critical stage of the process.

Blade Repair Academy is widely recognized as a leader in composite repair training and education for the wind industry’s blade service providers. Offering comprehensive 40–80-hour courses, the academy provides in-depth courses for both beginners and seasoned technicians to develop their skills with hands-on experience of the repair process start-to-finish.

This past August, Bret and Gentry had the opportunity to visit Blade Repair Academy’s training facility in Dunlap, TN, where they gained first-hand experience working through the full repair process under Alfred’s guidance. During the live webinar, attendees were able to watch video footage from their visit, adding a practical, real-world perspective to the repair process discussion.

The webinar was structured to mirror the key stages of the repair process, providing a clear and organized learning experience for viewers. These segments included:

  • Safety and PPE – Importance of proper safety measures and protective equipment
  • Tool Overview – Essential tools required for effective blade repair
  • Scarfing – Preparing damaged areas for composite layup
  • Layup – Applying composite materials to restore blade integrity
  • Compaction – Ensuring proper adhesion and structural integrity

  • Topcoat Application – Final protective coating to withstand environmental conditions

The event also included a Q&A session, where viewers had the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the experts, ensuring audience members received the most relevant and practical insights for their blade repair needs.

By hosting this webinar, Composites One reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Wind Energy industry with cutting-edge knowledge and resources.
