Composites One is Industry’s Leading Expert on Innovative, High-Volume Manufacturing Process

Composites One knows that generating high volume composite productions that are more cost effective than traditional options like open molding is important to today’s manufacturers. Pultrusion is one such process. Pultrusion is a high-volume, cost effective method used to produce composite cross section pieces such as I-beams, channels, angles, beams, rods, bars, tubing and sheets, to name a few.

Because these cross section pieces have infiltrated almost every industry, the demand for a high-volume process to produce these pieces is very important. The fact that Pultrusion is often more cost-effective than traditional manufacturing methods is an added bonus.

How does Pultrusion work and what are the benefits?

The Pultrusion process works by pulling fibers through catalyzed resin and then into a heated metal die.

Step 1: A caterpillar puller system pulls fibers through a tub of catalyzed resin and into a heated metal die in the desired shape.

Step 2: Once in the die, the fibers are cured.

Step 3: Automated saws cut the cured fibers at the appropriate length.

Step 4: The fibers continue to be pulled through the metal die and cut at appropriate lengths.

Because the caterpillar-like pulling system is continual, the Pultrusion process allows for a high volume of products to be manufactured in a short amount of time. As a bonus, the automated saws cut the fibers to the desired lengths, which means minimal wasted material, a more cost-effective process as well as a product that perfectly suits a specified application.
