OPTIPLUS® and POLYLITE® Tooling Resins
Polynt-Reichhold Group offers a full line of products for use in the manufacture and maintenance of composite tooling. These include gel coats, barrier coats and resins used to fabricate molds; cleaning products to maintain mold surfaces and equipment; and patch aids and adhesion promoters to facilitate repair. Two of the featured products in this line are Optiplus® and Polylite® Profile shrinkage controlled tooling resin systems. Both systems are high performance tooling resins designed for ambient temperature mold or tool fabrication. Both systems include products for hand lay-up and spray-up processes. The Optiplus® line also includes a product for mold fabrication by infusion. Optiplus® and Polylite® Profile tooling resins dramatically reduce mold build times and labor input in manufacturing molds. Molds built with Optiplus® and Polylite® Profile have minimal shrinkage and perfectly reproduce master plug geometry. The low shrinkage of Optiplus® and Polylite® Profile also dramatically improves surface quality; reducing post-finishing, sanding and buffing times. Prototype and production molds can be built with less expense, and placed into production more quickly.
Optiplus® products are pre-promoted and pre-thixed, with no additives required other than peroxide initiator (catalyst) for cure. They can accommodate high glass contents resulting in light weight molds with high mechanical properties and heat resistance. Optiplus® products are clear, amber liquid during application and fiber wet-out. As the resin cures the laminate will turn a creamy white as a visual indicator of proper cure. OptiPLUS® 040-8089 and 040-8094 tooling resins meet the EPA National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for Reinforced Plastic Composites Production and Boat Manufacturing.
POLYLITE® PROFILE 33540-00 when properly combined with Promoter 46559-00 and 50% alumina trihydrate filler is a low cost, user friendly tooling system. A MEKP peroxide initiator must be added for cure. The system color will change from cream to white as it cures, providing a visual indicator of cure progression. The filled tooling system meets EPA National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for Reinforced Plastic Composites Production and Boat Manufacturing.
